Bike to beautiful new places
Written by Luxury Scotland
Ideally positioned to explore the area by bike is Luxury Scotland member The Airds Hotel, where you can enjoy fabulous accommodation and hire a bike of your own.
The Airds Hotel is fortunate to have the National Cycle Network Route 78, which runs from Oban to Ballachulish then on to Fort William, on its doorstep. Guests can head out on two wheels from the hotel towards Appin and then follow the cycle track to join the main cycle route, then turn right for the route to Loch Creran or turn left to head up the shore of Loch Linnhe along the new dedicated cycle track.
From right outside the hotel there are several routes available. Here are two of our favourites:
Take the small passenger ferry to the island of Lismore. Being that Lismore is only 10 miles long with a single track road running down its centre, there is hardly any traffic and the views around Loch Linnhe are beautiful. With a population of around 100, this is a very peaceful, easygoing journey.
A particularly scenic section of NCN Route 78 runs between Benderloch and Ballachulish covering some 20 miles. The hotel is approximately at the midway point, making it convenient to head in either direction you choose.
With quiet roads and coastal paths, Argyll is an oasis for road cyclists and mountain bikers alike.
